Terrifying Tree Nuts

Having an allergy to all tree nuts means I must always stay alert. Simple things like grabbing food, eating out, or visiting friends become a whole search warrant . You have to really look closely at ingredient lists, sometimes a few times, looking out for tree nuts. For me, food isn't just about how it tastes or how easy it is. It's about staying safe. Social stuff can be tough. At parties, school events, or team get-togethers, it feels burdening to ask about every ingredient or turn down food that looks delicious but isn't safe. You're always trying to fit in while also keeping yourself safe. It's annoying and tiring to constantly explain to people how serious a tree nut allergy is, because they often just don't get it. Then there's the constant worry of accidentally eating something you shouldn't. Carrying emergency medicine, like an EpiPen, is just normal, and you're always checking your surroundings. Smells, shared surfaces, stuff that might be cross-contaminated. But living this way also makes you tough. You learn to be responsible, to know your stuff, and to speak up for yourself pretty early on. Being allergic to all tree nuts isn't just a food allergy, it's how I live every day, and it's changed how I think, plan, and deal with everything, and made me careful, independent, and strong.
