My food allergies have a great impact on my life. Some ways the allergies affect me in my everyday life is that I feel sometimes excluded from people, and sometimes I feel different from other people and kids. I have to check labels a lot, which can be challenging and stressful. And I have to explain my allergy to other kids and adults so they understand my allergy and what may happen if I eat sesame or sunflower seeds.
While it is hard sometimes, I am good at reading labels, talking to servers and restaurants about my allergy, and planning ahead, such as bringing a snack.
To make my allergies easier to manage, I cook and bake a lot at home and share those recipes with others. I find it hard sometimes at friends houses or parties I do have to think about my allergies and talk to people about them to make sure I stay safe. My friends are understanding and help me with my food allergies, but it is hard for other people to understand if they don’t have food allergies themselves.
Overall, there are a lot of things I can eat, and I do cook to make sure I stay safe.
