Peanuts and Panic

A couple of years back, my family and I were hungry and planned to go and eat something quick. Normally, our go-to fast meal would be a carryout restaurant called Kenny's Sub Shop(it was delicious!) We would usually get the chicken and broccoli, egg rolls, white rice, fried rice, and beef lo mein. When the food was ready, I ate every bite of my chicken and Broccoli. This time we had gotten egg rolls and I still felt a bit hungry. When I opened the wrapper, the egg roll was drenched in oil. I thought nothing of it because it is a fast food place after all. So I started to reheat it in the microwave. Once I took my first couple bites, I noticed something wrong. It felt as if my throat was getting tight and closing up. It was getting harder to breathe and I had to go tell my mom. Once I told my mom, we went to the hospital and they checked me out while I told them what happened. They gave me some medicine(Lucky I had mild symptoms and did not eat enough for it to be serious). After that I threw up what I had eaten to get it out of my system. We assumed it was not regular oil, but peanut oil. After that day, my family stayed away from buying at Kenny's Sub Shop. Within that incident I truly realized that it can be hard finding places that taste good and have a strict no peanuts policy. Although it can be hard having a nut allergy, I have found other places to eat Chinese/Asian food. Like, panda express(a common restaurant, there's still a risk of peanut contamination from them but as of now, I haven't faced anything), or Pike Kitchen(My favorite place so far!). Even at home I try to make my own shrimp wantons, and soup dumplings using different recipes found all over Instagram.
