Milk + Sesame

I have a life threatening food allergies to both milk and sesame. I was diagnosed with these allergies when I was six months old. They still largely affect me today but I don’t let my allergies define me. I carry epi pens and Auvi Q’s wherever I go, so I can be safe. Unfortunately, I have had to use my epi pen twice as I had an allergic reaction at an Italian restaurant while eating pasta because there was actually cheese in it, and I had to use it while on vacation in Florida because I had a dessert that had chocolate in it which had milk. These two reactions had taught me to be more careful about things. Now I take a medicine called Xolair which helps me tolerate a little bit of what I am allergic to. I’ve done multiple food challenges to see if I could tolerate my allergen in a food that was baked and something like pure milk. When I try to explain my allergies to people at my school, they often do not understand and they think that it is a preference or that I am lactose intolerant which can be quite annoying. Sometimes it can be embarrassing to tell a large group of people that you have a food allergy.
