Lactose Intolerance

Living with lactose intolerance affects many parts of my daily life, especially when it comes to food and social situations. Because my body cannot properly digest lactose, I have to be careful about what I eat to avoid stomach pain, bloating, and discomfort. This means I often check food labels to see if products contain milk, butter, cream, or cheese. Simple meals that many people do not think twice about, such as cereal with milk or pizza, can be difficult for me. At school, lunches and events sometimes include foods with dairy, so I either bring my own food or choose limited options that I know are safe.
Social situations can also be challenging. When going to restaurants or parties, I sometimes have to ask questions about ingredients or avoid certain foods altogether, which can feel awkward. There are moments when I feel left out because I cannot eat what everyone else is having, especially desserts like ice cream or cake. However, over time I have learned how to manage my condition better. I now use lactose-free products and plant-based alternatives like almond milk or oat milk, which allow me to enjoy many of the same foods without discomfort.
Living with lactose intolerance has taught me to be more aware of my body and make thoughtful choices. While it can be inconvenient at times, planning ahead and having supportive people around me makes managing this condition much easier.
