Dairy

Updated: Feb 14

I have a mild dairy allergy, and even though it’s not super serious, it still affects my everyday life in a lot of ways. I can’t eat things like milk, cheese, or ice cream without feeling sick afterward, so I always have to think about what I’m eating. When I do eat dairy by accident, my stomach usually hurts, I feel bloated, and sometimes I get a headache or feel really tired. Because of this, school lunches can be annoying since a lot of the food includes cheese or milk, like pizza or mac and cheese. I usually have to avoid certain foods or bring something from home so I don’t feel uncomfortable for the rest of the day. Hanging out with friends can also be a little awkward, especially when they want to get pizza or go out for ice cream, because I have to either say no or find something else to eat. Sometimes people don’t really understand and think I’m just being picky, but it’s actually about how my body reacts. Living with this allergy has made me more aware of what I eat and how food affects me. I’ve learned to read labels, ask questions, and listen to my body when something doesn’t feel right. Even though it can be frustrating at times, my allergy isn’t something that stops me from enjoying life, it just means I have to be more careful and make smarter choices every day
